I am not going to claim any credit for the photograph above; this was shot by my 9 year old daughter Kaitlyn, her first attempt to shoot with a DSLR, capturing her younger sister Aislin and our very good family friend, Hannah.

With its slightly soft focus it is not the sort that would win any technical awards with the pixel peepers, but it does speak to the power of composition when you don't know any of the rules you are breaking. Instead of worrying about convention, Kaitlyn was simply able to capture a moment. I've spent considerable time reflecting on this photograph, and at every turn it becomes just that more poignant to me ~ that instead of worrying about all the technical nuances of photography, sometimes its best just to pick up a camera and shoot to enjoy it.
