2nd Annual Worldwide Photowalk Saturday July 18 2009 …

… or how I spent the first day of my summer vacation.

Last year Karen and I had the opportunity to participate in the first Worldwide Photowalk organized by Scott Kelby, here in Vancouver. It was a blast, got us out of the valley and into downtown for the first time in many months, and it was great way for the two of us to spend a few hours together alone (besides our 50 closest photography friends). This year due to circumstances Karen wasn’t able to attend, so Kaitlyn jumped at the chance to be out for a night and use her “new” camera.

As with last year, the host for the event here in Vancouver was David duChemin; I’ve followed David for the past year and a half, initially via his pixelatedimage blog, and then through last year’s event and the publication of his book Within the Frame. In fact, now-adays its seems that at almost every turn David is being featured, whether its a podcast, video, magazine article or a high word of praise and recognition from one of many of his professional peers.  David has this incredible personality that allows him to convey his passion to those around him, and his writings and thoughts continue to resonate long after. If you haven’t had a chance to read his writings, please do!

The event was great, and anytime I get a chance to be near the water in Vancouver is fantastic … but this time even more because I got to share this with my daughter.  She’s taken a real interest in photography and she has a keen eye for an 8 year-old. I’m very proud of her enthusiasm, and that she was able to last through the 2 hours of walking the seawall.
